2007 Public Conference: Separation of Church and State - Why?

Location

Barton Creek Resort and Spa, Austin, Texas

Date

Jul 13, 2007 – 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM

The intersection of organized religion and the State has been a topic for debate since the founding of the United States. A wide spectrum of views on religion and politics have emerged since Thomas Jefferson's 1802 Wall of Separation letter discussing the Establishment Clause's requirement that the "legislature shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof."

This summer, The Texas Lyceum will focus on this aspect of the First Amendment to explore the current tensions within the Establishment Clause debate including school vouchers, faith based initiatives, public displays of religion, teaching the Bible in public schools and the policy implications for competing viewpoints. For detailed information on the agenda and other Lyceum news, the meeting program is available.

Join hundreds of thought leaders as they convene in Austin to discuss this important topic. The program has been approved for 5.00 hours of clergy CEU credit and accredited by the State Bar of Texas Committee on MCLE for 7.5 hours of Continuing Legal Education credit, including one hour of legal ethics/professional responsibility. Share your ideas, your opinions and your expertise.
