Texas and states across the nation are facing serious challenges with respect to transportation infrastructure and funding. According to the Texas A&M Transportation Institute, Texas needs to invest $375 billion between now and 2030, with only about half that revenue available, to maintain our current infrastructure and prevent worsening traffic congestion. January 28, 2011      The Future of Public Pension Funds: Why It Matters to Every Texan

Public employee pension funds in Texas are designed to provide a secure retirement for millions of Texans and their families. Texas public pension funds have largely avoided the fiscal crises that are afflicting many other state pension systems, but as we look ahead, the state government alone must stretch $135 billion to cover $180 billion in pension obligations. This is to say nothing about the commitments of municipal governments and public school systems.
