The Lyceum Board of Directors meets four times each year in quarterly meetings across the state, with one of these meetings being selected as the Lyceum's annual Public Conference. An optional meeting is sometimes scheduled each year and attendance is left to the discretion of each Director.
In short, a Lyceum Director's obligations and responsibilities are as follows:
- Attendance is expected at the four regularly scheduled board events each year. At least two meetings per year and five meetings over each two year period are required;
- A member is required to pay or cause to be contributed $500.00 in annual dues to the Lyceum on or before March 1 during each year of your term. This obligation is in addition to your important responsibility to raise additional financial support for the Lyceum's activities;
- Attend and participate in other Lyceum sponsored events and programs;
- Attend and participate in the meetings of the Lyceum committees and task forces on which you serve;
- Encourage attendance by others at Lyceum sponsored events, especially the Conference, through the use of your personal and professional contacts;
- Make visits to business and financial leaders in your community to seek support for the Lyceum and assist in raising money to support Association activities;
- Call on publishers and editors of your local newspapers and encourage their attendance and coverage of Lyceum sponsored events;
- Make a special effort to assure participation in the Lyceum and its activities by a broad diversity of individuals;
- Actively participate in discussions on an ongoing basis;
- Regularly reflect on the issues facing Texas;
- Commit to assisting in the response to challenges within our state
The financial commitment of membership is as follows:
- Annual Dues: $500.00
- Quarterly Meetings: Registration of $200 per meeting (four meetings per year – includes most meals on Friday and Saturday) or you can elect our meeting package of $500 for all four Quarterly Meetings.
- In addition, Directors are responsible for the cost of personal travel, hotel and meals not included in the registration fee. Every attempt is made to minimize expenses of the meetings.
Director attendance and administrative related business for each Director are reviewed on an annual basis by the Lyceum Executive Committee to ensure the Association remains vibrant, engaged, and well positioned to respond to our State's needs. Failure to meet any financial obligation to the corporation may result in a Dropped Directorship status without the benefits and rights of alumni status.
